I was inspired by my eastern heritage, a very iconic mythological figure that is popularized in my hometown, Macau. Her name is “Mazu” (媽祖). She was believed to be a goddess that protected people from the stormy seas. Before her divinity, she was a little human girl, who was blessed with supernatural abilities and could accurately forecast the weather and predict the future, later when she became god, she guides the sailors with shining beams of lights. Her Bright red robes on the water signals the arrival of the impending storm. She later vowed to remain on Earth until all beings achieved enlightenment and exited the cycle of suffering.
In the painting, so as the name, “MAZU-mazu”, there is two of herself. One is the human little girl form and another is her grownup Goddess form. They work together to fight against the storms, convicting evil and blessing the land and seas with colorful energies. What you see here is a battling scene between cuteness and evil. The paints and colors are dancing and fighting at the same time. Chariots of clouds, wavy seas, dessert lands are harmonized by color energy powers from the two girls!
“Connect with your inner child, be brave,
Two of you is stronger than one !”
I appreciate the love and trust from Août Gallery and the collector !
Brave girls go big ~
May the colors be with you 🫶🏻
