Août Gallery’s group exhibition Young Dreams is live through April 15. You can visit us Monday to Friday 10 am to 6 pm, or schedule a private tour. Be sure to pass by for a small dream.
In the meantime, we would love to tell you more about the participating artists:
Mona Broschár studied painting and printmaking at the Academy of visual Arts in Leipzig and the Camberwell College of Arts in London. In her paintings Broschár focuses on everyday encounters. At first glance, her motives may seem playful, but this is precisely where she locates their provocation. In the reduced pictorial worlds, Broschár confronts the supposedly harmonious favor with its abysmal and gloomy downside: the voluptuousness of human desires. She is currently based in Leipzig, Germany.
Sara Tohme (born in Lebanon in 1995), received her BA in Arts from McGill University, and moved to Berlin to study Graphic Design and Painting.
Tohme started painting at a very young age soon to develop her own style. Her bright color palette combined with organized lines display the controversy of containment and freedom that she notices in the people around her. The absence of shadows and the flatness in her works evoke graphic and childlike emotions. She paints portraits that seem to feel emotions of indifference but also reflect a discreet sense of fascination. She uses art as a tool to interpret the world and get by, one day at a time.
Tohme currently lives in Berlin, Germany.
Jaeyeon Yoo (born in 1988) is a South Korean artist. She received a BFA in Painting at the College of Art and Design, Ewha Women’s University (2011), and earned her MA in painting from the Royal College of Art in 2014.
Yoo conceives her paintings as an escape of reality. She creates her own imaginary world, inspired by tradition, but also transcending it. The result is an alternate realm filled with fantasy and wonder.
Maze Walker, 2019 is part of the artist’s “Night Walker” series. ‘This series of paintings depict the situation when I stroll alone at night. It’s about the notion of isolation and alienation.’- Jaeyeon Yoo
Yoo currently lives and works between London and Seoul.
‘By revisiting the representation of space, I open up ways of inhabiting the world. In my paintings, the vanishing lines have independent trajectories, they escape a unique destiny. The effect of disturbing landmarks can induce a moment of change, the instant before the disaster, the search for harmony in the disorder. ‘- Johanna Mirabel.
Johanna Mirabel (born in 1991) is a French artist. Mirabel received several degrees including a DNSAP (Higher National Diploma in Plastic Arts) in Djamel Tatah’s Studio, from l’Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris (2019).
In her works, comprised of both paintings and sculptures, Mirabel alternates between the abstract, the expressionist, and the realist. She seldom merges these representations, dynamizing mundane scenarios into complex scenes, that she intersperses with luscious vegetation and miscellaneous objects.
Currently, she lives and works in Paris.
