Août Gallery presents its second solo show of 2022: Lowland Delusion, by nineteen year old emerging artist XIAOHAN JIANG.
“ I am passionate about exploring how attachment to the land affects one’s upbringing, and how people and natural shape and nurture “me”. I hope to convey this sense of remoteness, detachment, and even heartlessness to evoke memories of home, nature, and loved ones. I grew up in the countryside, and nature had a wide range of influences on me. I began writing poetry and journaling when I was four years old. My love of writing developed my sense of the world and led me to explore a poetic language in my work, which is a paradoxical mixture of strange, familiar, calm, and manic. By combining my imagination to create scenes with bright and high contrast colors, to express emotions that I did not realize until they were lost, sometimes childhood regrets and hurts can be healed across time and space by other coincidences as I grow up. These moments help me step outside of myself and cherish the moments of the present. My paintings are my poems speaking slowly and you can feel it without seeing or listening. ”
